A firewall alone is not enough. The servers I manage continuously analyse their logs to spot intrusion attempts, block malicious addresses before they come back, and report them to AbuseIPDB, the international community database.

Repeated failures, scans, bursts: the alert threshold is reached.

The address goes on the firewall's blacklist, at the source.
